A Healing Herb Farm

  • Willow Bark Botanicals is a medicinal and culinary herb farm. Our herbs are grown using practices that support healthy ecosystems above and below the soil. Guided by the philosophy that farming is medicine, we use sustainable, holistic farming practices to grow nutrient rich herbs sold through CSA shares, as plant starts, and in wholesale markets.

“Our mission is to grow and cultivate high quality medicinal herbs for our local community to promote alternative ways people can heal their bodies, minds, and the soil they walk on.”

A Different Way To Farm

  • Organic Practices: We never spray herbicides or use synthetic fertilizers. We foster soil fertility by using certified organic fertilizers if needed and adding compost. We use row cover and foster habitat for birds and beneficial insects to address pests. We minimize weeds by mowing, mulching, using tarps, using living pathways, and hand weeding. All of the seeds we purchase are certified organic. Herbs are grown in healthy, organic soil.

Diversity : Diversity is essential for a healthy soil ecosystem and plant immunity. We grow 12 different herbs on our 1/8 acre farm, and these plants have been strategically placed in order to foster symbiosis. Diversity not only creates a healthy soil ecosystem, but it also reduces pests and disease.

Low Till: We want to keep all of the beneficial life below the soil alive and well, so we do not heavily plow the soil. We use hand tools and rely on earthworms and an other creatures to aerate the soil. In the winter, we cover empty bed with cover crops in order to aid in carbon sequestration and soil health.

  • We believe that farming is medicine. It simultaneously allows us to heal ourselves, the soil, and the surrounding ecosystems. We aim to leave the soil better than we found it.

  • It is our hope to create an avenue in which people can improve their relationship with medicinal herbs and better learn about the benefits that they can provide.
